Arvind Kejriwal took oath of office in a packed Ramlila Maidan on Saturday, becoming the seventh chief
minister of Delhi. Kejriwal chaired the first Cabinet meeting at Delhi Secretariat.
Earlier in the day, he said on his way to the venue, “This fight is not about making Arvind Kejriwal the chief minister of Delhi, but it is start for another fight for independence. This fight will go on till this country is free of corruption and injustice. It is a historic day and a victory for the common man today.”
Keriwal reached Barakhamba around 11:30am from Kaushambi station in a metro amid tight security. He headed towards the venue for oath-taking in a car. True to his Aam Admi Party’s (AAP’s) anti-VIP culture, Kejriwal had earlier turned down ‘Z’ category security.
Kejriwal told the media he would go to the Delhi government's secretariat shortly after being sworn in.
His AAP, which promised a corruption-free Delhi as well as lower power tariff and free water up to 700 litre a day, had decimated the Congress in the December 4 elections to set the stage for the Delhi CM’s swearing-in. However, he will have to prove the AAP government’s majority by January 3.
Nevertheless, from clearing the IIT entrance examination to cracking the UPSC to winning the assembly elections, Kejriwal has done all at the first shot.
